It was striking to walk through Lauris, a little town in France and feel like we had stepped right into a movie set. The feeling of the place, the colours, the architecture, the businesses – everything seemed to be just what I hoped it would be, so Provencal. Of course it is. That is where we are staying this week, but even the colour card is living up to what my imagination had cooked up. I could not be happier.

My daughter thought we had driven onto the set of the movie Chocolat, as we meandered into Lauris on Easter Monday. Alas, the shooting actually took place in Flavigny-sur-Ozerain, far away from here. From photos, I can see that many French towns which are still standing with heritage back to medieval times, look very similar!

Maybe Lauris looks like the town which was used for the movie – A Good Year. That was at least set in Provence. In fact it was filmed in the Luberon region, right where our little town is located! Sadly our town was not included in shooting, but it well could have been.

Living like a local, we have strolled through town, enjoyed a cafe au lait after buying a baguette from the boulangerie for dinner. I could just imagine having a summer home here. It is too chilly right now, in early Spring. But to live like a French person when the air is warmer, I could do that. We are in the foothills of the Luberon mountains, so it is a little less oppressive here in the summer heat. The food is delicious and the wine is fantastic!

Then one has to notice the colours of Provence. Even now, in the early Spring as the season is just starting to open up the unique colour card of the region is plainly obvious. Have a look at the samples I took on a walk through town. I just want to have all of this exported to our area back home. It makes me smile with the brightness and whimsy.

Incidentally, the people are super nice as well. Nothing of the typical French rudeness one hears about. At least that was our experience. I don’t think I could live here, but it is sure fun to visit!

Yes, there is nothing quite like Spring here! It is so charming and beautiful. So much like everything I had imagined from the movies – it has not disappointed at all. I have taken so many photos! I might start to put up more collection posts. They are fun!
